The deck deliberately fluctuates life totals through lifelink, life payment effects, and deliberate self-damage to maximize both of Betor's triggered abilities simultaneously, while effects from Archangel of Thune, Lathiel, the Bounteous Dawn, and similar counter-spreaders turn large life swings into an overwhelming board of massive creatures. Life drain effects like Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose and Enduring Tenacity convert each life gain trigger into direct opponent loss, and Betor, Kin to All provides a secondary late-game payoff that rewards a wide, counter-laden board with card draw, untapping your creatures, and potentially halving each opponent's life total — allowing the deck to win through combat damage from an ever-growing army and incremental life drain from multiple angles.
