Iroh, Grand Lotus
Iroh, Grand Lotus Commander Deck
This is a Lessons spellslinger deck. It fills the graveyard with cheap Lesson instants and sorceries, then uses Iroh, Grand Lotus to recast each of them for {1} on its own turn, while other instants and sorceries come back for their normal mana cost. Every spell cast, including each flashback, triggers a dense set of magecraft and cast-trigger creatures and enchantments that draw cards, make mana, deal damage or make tokens. Lessons in the graveyard also power threshold-style bonuses, so the deck chains many spells per turn from both hand and graveyard. How it wins: It chains Lessons and flashback casts in one big turn, letting repeated cast triggers burn each opponent out, flood the board with Dragons, or copy spells many times over with a storm-style payoff. Key roles: - Lesson recursion engine: Iroh, Grand Lotus turns the graveyard into a second hand of {1} Lessons, and other cards cut graveyard costs further or reward casting from it with cards and value. (Doc Aurlock, Grizzled Genius, Secrets of the Dead, Toph, Hardheaded Teacher) - Graveyard Lesson count: Several cards get stronger with three or more Lessons in the graveyard, becoming cheaper, drawing more or hitting harder, so looting and self-discard that stock the yard feed both the bonuses and Iroh's flashback. (Gran-Gran, Accumulate Wisdom, Chakra Meditation) - Cost reduction and spell mana: Reducers and mana-on-cast effects make each spell nearly free or net positive, so long chains don't run dry. (Storm-Kiln Artist, Electro, Assaulting Battery, Uncle Iroh) - Cast-trigger card flow: Draw-on-cast pieces refill the hand faster than spells are spent and dig toward payoffs. (Archmage of Runes, Archmage Emeritus, Case of the Ransacked Lab) - Damage and token payoffs: Each instant, sorcery or noncreature spell pings every opponent, grows a dragon, or makes a 5/5 flier, turning a long chain into lethal damage. (Guttersnipe, Longshot, Rebel Bowman, Rite of the Dragoncaller) - Spell copying and free-cast finishers: Copy and free-cast effects multiply a late-chain spell or cast a pile of spells at no cost, which closes out a big turn. (Thousand-Year Storm, Improvisation Capstone, Ashling, Flame Dancer)
