Val, Marooned Surveyor anchors a fast creature-toolbox combo deck. The core is a two-card loop: whenever Val's scry/surveil trigger gains life, Trelasarra, Moon Dancer scries 1, which triggers Val again, repeating until every opponent is dead. The rest of the deck ramps out cheap creatures, tutors for the missing piece, shields it from interaction, and shuts opponents off from responding on its own turn. How it wins: It assembles Val and Trelasarra, Moon Dancer, usually behind spell-locks and protection, so that one life-gain or scry event starts an endless chain of 2 damage to each opponent. Key roles: - Infinite scry-lifegain loop: Val's 2 life on each scry feeds a creature that scries on every life gain, so a single trigger goes infinite. Any stray lifegain or scry starts the chain, including a land sacrifice, a tap-for-life creature, or a scry or surveil land entering. (Val, Marooned Surveyor, Trelasarra, Moon Dancer, Zuran Orb) - Creature tutor toolbox: A heavy suite of creature tutors and put-onto-the-battlefield effects finds the combo piece or whatever answer is needed. Discard-based tutoring and sacrifice chains turn spare dorks into the right card. (Chord of Calling, Survival of the Fittest, Finale of Devastation) - Enter-the-battlefield triggers for Val: Creatures that gain life when others enter, plus permanents that scry whenever a creature arrives, turn every dork and tutored creature into a starter for the loop. Without the full combo, they still give Val a steady stream of pings. (Soul Warden, Season of Growth, Lita, Little Orphan Amphibian) - Turn-locking stax and counter-proofing: Several creatures stop opponents from casting spells or activating abilities during the deck's turn. Others make its spells uncounterable, so the combo turn resolves cleanly. (Grand Abolisher, Kutzil, Malamet Exemplar, Hexing Squelcher) - Combo-piece protection: Protection-granting creatures and cheap hexproof or indestructible instants keep Val and Trelasarra alive against removal. Some of these instants also scry or gain life, which can trigger the loop. (Mother of Runes, Loran's Escape, Tamiyo's Safekeeping) - Fast creature mana: One-mana dorks and Treasure makers accelerate the commander and convoke tutors, letting the deck threaten the combo very early. (Birds of Paradise, Delighted Halfling, Gilded Goose)
