Jorn, God of Winter // Kaldring, the Rimestaff
Jorn, God of Winter // Kaldring, the Rimestaff Commander Deck
This is a snow-permanents deck that grows a board of snow lands, mana rocks and creatures, then turns that count into payoffs. Jorn untaps every snow permanent when he attacks, so lands, rocks and tap-ability creatures get used twice per turn. Kaldring replays snow permanents from the graveyard, and untappers and mana doublers fuel big mana sinks, scaling threats and a Marit Lage finish. How it wins: The deck overwhelms opponents in combat with creatures that scale with the snow count, backed by a 20/20 Marit Lage from Dark Depths or Marit Lage's Slumber, and it can lock opponents out with Stasis or freeze effects while Jorn's untap keeps its own permanents working. Key roles: - Snow mana base and ramp: snow basics, snow duals and snow rocks raise the snow count, pay {S} costs, and become double mana once Jorn attacks or the untappers chain them (Into the North, Coldsteel Heart, Replicating Ring). - Untap and mana amplification engine: tap effects and extra mana that Jorn's attack trigger and the untap creatures reuse, with mana-retention pieces keeping the floating mana for post-combat spells (Rime Tender, Wilderness Reclamation, Kruphix, God of Horizons). - Snow-count payoffs: creatures, spells and lands whose size or effect scales with the number of snow permanents, giving the deck large trampling and flying threats (Abominable Treefolk, Rimefeather Owl, Blessing of Frost). - Marit Lage package: Dark Depths can be cracked with abundant untapped mana, or Thespian's Stage can copy it, while the Slumber summons a second 20/20 once ten snow permanents are out (Dark Depths, Thespian's Stage, Marit Lage's Slumber). - Tap-down and lockout control: freeze effects keep opponents' permanents tapped while Jorn untaps the deck's own snow permanents, with Stasis as an asymmetric lock (Stasis, Icebind Pillar, Icebreaker Kraken). - Snow card selection and recursion: tools filter for snow cards and refill from the graveyard, supporting Kaldring's replay ability (Frost Augur, Glacial Revelation, The Three Seasons).
