Wick, the Whorled Mind

Wick, the Whorled Mind Commander Deck

by Catstronaut100 cards

Wick is the engine of this Rat tribal deck. Every Rat that enters, tokens included, makes a single Snail or puts a +1/+1 counter on the existing one. Once the Snail is big, sacrificing it for UBR makes Wick deal that much damage to each opponent and draw the same number of cards. Mass Rat token makers, Rat anthems and evasion, sacrifice-and-death triggers that replace dead creatures with more Rats, and changelings plus Maskwood Nexus that count as Rats let the deck switch between a wide go-wide combat plan and a burst Snail sacrifice. How it wins: It swarms opponents with pumped, evasive, often deathtouching or toxic Rats, while repeatedly sacrificing a heavily grown Snail through Wick to drain each opponent and refill the hand for the next wave. Key roles: - Rat token flood: Spitting out Rats in bulk, often every turn or exponentially, grows the board and stacks counters on the Snail through Wick's enter trigger with each token (Marrow-Gnawer, Lord Skitter, Sewer King, Pack Rat). - Snail payoff and burn: Turning one fat Snail into damage to every opponent plus a matching card draw, with ways to double that power or protect and haste the commander, makes Wick the finisher (Wick, the Whorled Mind, Bulk Up, Lightning Greaves). - Death and sacrifice loop: Creatures dying, including sacrifice outlets fed by fodder Rats and sac-cost removal, are converted back into new Rat tokens that keep Wick's trigger firing (Totentanz, Swarm Piper, Rat King, Pale Piper, Ogre Slumlord). - Tribal scaling and evasion: Rat-count bodies, anthems and keyword granters make a wide board lethal in combat through menace, fear, deathtouch, toxic and per-Rat pumps (Ashcoat of the Shadow Swarm, Shared Animosity, Piper of the Swarm). - Changeling and type support: Shapeshifters and Maskwood Nexus count as Rats for Wick's triggers and the tribal payoffs, while Reflections of Littjara copies Rat spells for double triggers (Maskwood Nexus, Reflections of Littjara, Mischievous Sneakling). - Rat recursion and refuel: Graveyard tricks and Rat card advantage rebuild the swarm after sweepers, including mass reanimation by creature type and token makers that scale with the graveyard (Bloodline Bidding, Revenge of the Rats, Karumonix, the Rat King).
