Doran, Besieged by Time leads a toughness-matters deck that fills the board with walls, treefolk and other bodies whose toughness far exceeds their power, cast at a discount through Doran's cost reduction. Doran's attack and block trigger adds the gap between power and toughness to both stats, and a stack of "assigns damage equal to toughness" effects plus defender-attack enablers turns 0/5s and 0/13s into huge attackers. Because the deck's own creatures have tiny power, power-based sweepers become one-sided, and creature recursion that targets low-power cards rebuilds after any trade. How it wins: It attacks with oversized-toughness creatures dealing damage equal to their toughness, often given trample, deathtouch or haste, and can also close out with Betor's life-halving end step or the Jaws of Defeat, Tree of Perdition and Thousand-Year Elixir combo. Key roles: - Toughness-as-damage: Effects that make creatures deal combat damage equal to their toughness, and let defenders attack, turn the defensive board into the main offense alongside Doran's pump. (Assault Formation, Felothar the Steadfast, Ghalta the Immovable) - High-toughness bodies: Walls and treefolk with huge toughness and little or no power get the most out of Doran's discount and combat bonus, and some add mana or protection. (Indomitable Ancients, Tree of Perdition, The Walls of Ba Sing Se) - Toughness pumps and finishers: Instant and sorcery toughness boosts and team-wide buffs inflate damage for a lethal swing, while evasion and payoff cards convert total toughness into cards, trample or direct life loss. (Bar the Door, Betor, Kin to All, Primal Rage) - One-sided wipes: Sweepers keyed to high power clear opposing threats while the deck's low-power creatures survive. (Expel the Interlopers, Fell the Mighty, Wave of Reckoning) - Low-power recursion: Reanimation and return effects aimed at small-power or low-cost creatures rebuild the board after trades or wipes. (Smile at Death, Raise the Past, Colfenor, the Last Yew) - Treefolk ramp and value: Treefolk tutors, discounts and mana creatures that scale with toughness accelerate into the expensive top end and keep cards flowing. (Arbor Adherent, Fecund Greenshell, Bosk Banneret)
