The Revolving Door

Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker Commander Deck

by Mezentio100 cards

Shirei turns every power-1-or-less creature into a recurring sacrifice resource: each one sacrificed to a free outlet comes back at the next end step, ready to die again next turn. The deck is packed with cheap 1-power bodies that pay off when they die or enter (removal pings, treasures, cards, life drain). Free sac outlets and Grave Pact-style punishers grind opponents' boards away while drain enchantments and creatures turn each death into lost life. Because Shirei's return happens at the end step, the loop is one cycle per turn rather than infinite, so the deck wins by repeated value and attrition, not a single combo. How it wins: It grinds opponents out with repeated death-trigger drain from aristocrat payoffs, backed by edicts and Crypt Rats sweeps, finishing with Fell Beast of Mordor, Skirsdag demons or Summon: Primal Odin. Key roles: - Sacrifice outlets: Free or cheap ways to kill the deck's own creatures at instant speed, converting each body into mana, scry, counters or cards so Shirei's returns can be cashed in every turn (Ashnod's Altar, Viscera Seer, Carrion Feeder). - Recursive death-trigger fodder: 1-power creatures whose death or entry effects give value every time Shirei brings them back, shrinking opposing creatures, making treasure or drawing cards (Festering Mummy, Greedy Freebooter, Dusk Legion Zealot). - Aristocrat drain: Permanents that make each opponent lose life whenever creatures die or leave the graveyard, so the repeated sacrifice loop becomes the win condition (Zulaport Cutthroat, Bastion of Remembrance, Marionette Apprentice). - Edicts and board control: Grave Pact effects and repeatable sweepers that use the deck's own expendable creatures to strip opponents' boards, plus recurring enter-the-battlefield removal (Grave Pact, Abyssal Gatekeeper, Crypt Rats). - Sacrifice-fueled card flow: Draw engines that turn deaths into cards to keep the grind going (Skullclamp, Morbid Opportunist, Vampiric Rites). - Bogbrew Witch package: The Witch tutors Festering Newt and Bubbling Cauldron, and Shirei returns the Newt each turn so it can be sacrificed again for a repeatable 4-life drain on each opponent, made stronger by Newt's -4/-4 bonus (Bogbrew Witch, Festering Newt, Bubbling Cauldron).
