The Serpent Society
The Serpent Society Commander Deck
This deck fills the board with cheap deathtouch creatures. Each one is a threat in combat and a payoff when it dies: The Serpent Society makes every opponent sacrifice a nontoken creature whenever another of its deathtouch creatures dies, and Grave Pact effects stack on top of that. Free sacrifice outlets and death-draw engines turn its own creatures into removal, mana and cards. Alongside this runs a poison and combat-damage subtheme, where deathtouch attackers pick up toxic, extra poison, card draw and +1/+1 growth. How it wins: It strips opponents' boards with repeated forced sacrifices, then attacks freely to finish them through poison counters, drain triggers and life-halving combat damage. Key roles: - Deathtouch bodies: Cheap deathtouch creatures, mana creatures and token makers serve as blockers, attackers and sacrifice fodder that set off the commander's edict. Several of them produce more deathtouch snakes or insects to keep the chain going (Hornet Queen, Ophiomancer, Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons). - Sacrifice outlets and edict stacking: Free or mana-producing outlets let the deck kill its own creatures at will. Each death then sets off the commander along with extra each-opponent-sacrifices enchantments, wiping opposing boards and fueling big mana turns (Ashnod's Altar, Grave Pact, Dictate of Erebos). - Death payoffs: Dying creatures draw cards, drain opponents, gain life, and steal opposing creatures as Treasure when they die, so every sacrifice gains value (Skullclamp, Poison-Tip Archer, Vraska, the Silencer). - Recursion: Creatures and the commander come back from the graveyard, so the sacrifice loop can repeat (Cauldron of Essence, Reanimate). - Poison and proliferate: Toxic creatures, a commander-neutral poison doubler for deathtouch hits, and proliferate sources push opponents toward ten counters, with a planeswalker able to top a player off (Fynn, the Fangbearer, Bloated Contaminator, Vraska, Betrayal's Sting). - Deathtouch combat payoffs: Damage from deathtouch attackers draws cards, grows the attackers, halves life totals or drains on attack, and team pumps that grant infect or deathtouch turn a wide board into a lethal swing (Black Widow, Deadly Hunter, Aphelia, Viper Whisperer, Triumph of the Hordes).
