Magar of the Magic Strings Commander Deck
Magar of the Magic Strings turns instants and sorceries in the graveyard into face-down 3/3 attackers that recast a free copy of their spell whenever they connect with a player. The deck loads its graveyard with big, expensive sorceries through entombing, milling, looting and discard-to-draw effects. It then animates them with Magar and pushes them through with evasion, haste and extra combats, turning each hit into a free board wipe, army, extra turn or mind control. Magecraft payoffs reward every copied spell with treasure or life drain. How it wins: Repeated free casts of haymakers like Army of the Damned, In Garruk's Wake, Worst Fears or Temporal Extortion swing the game, and an animated Savage Beating that keeps connecting generates endless combat phases and untaps for a lethal loop. Key roles: - Graveyard stocking: Tutors that put a chosen card straight into the graveyard, plus self-mill, set up the exact spell Magar of the Magic Strings should animate, often an uncastable expensive sorcery (Unmarked Grave, Oriq Loremage, Final Parting). - Discard and looting: Rummage and discard-to-draw spells dig through the deck, dump key sorceries into the graveyard and become animation targets themselves. Discard engines like Inti also gain value from the cards thrown away (Faithless Looting, Big Score, Inti, Seneschal of the Sun). - Haymaker payload: Very expensive sorceries are meant to be cast for free off combat damage rather than hard-cast, delivering one-sided wipes, armies, theft and extra turns (In Garruk's Wake, Army of the Damned, Worst Fears). - Connecting with attackers: Unblockability, shadow, landwalk, blocking taxes, haste and goad make sure the face-down 3/3s reach a player. The shroud equipment also keeps a threat safe (Whispersilk Cloak, Key to the City, Disrupt Decorum). - Extra combat loop: Savage Beating animated by Magar of the Magic Strings copies itself on each hit, untapping creatures and adding combats indefinitely, while double strike and haste enablers multiply triggers (Savage Beating, Anger, Ogre Battledriver). - Magecraft payoff: Each free copy counts as casting or copying a spell, so treasure makers fuel more Magar activations and drain effects whittle down opponents (Storm-Kiln Artist, Professor Onyx).
