Chromium, the Mutable
Chromium, the Mutable Commander Deck
Chromium is a commander-damage Voltron deck. It suits up the flashed-in, uncounterable 7/7 flyer with Auras and Equipment, protects it heavily, and backs it with cheap interaction and counterspells. Chromium's discard ability works as built-in protection and evasion: the 1/1 base only replaces its base stats, so the bonuses from Auras, Equipment and anthem effects still apply on top of it. Discarding a card makes it hexproof and unblockable for the turn, which lets the pumped dragon connect for lethal commander damage while dodging spot removal. Note that it loses flying and its other abilities until end of turn. How it wins: It stacks scaling Auras, Equipment and double strike onto Chromium, or a backup carrier, and kills each opponent with 21 commander damage, using Chromium's discard ability or other evasion to get through. Key roles: - Scaling pump: Auras and Equipment that grow with the number of artifacts, enchantments or lands, plus damage multipliers and trample, turn a single hit into lethal commander damage. (Blackblade Reforged, Eldrazi Conscription, Duelist's Heritage) - Attachment engine: These cards tutor, draw off, cheaply move and flash in Auras and Equipment, so the Voltron package keeps flowing even through removal. (Sram, Senior Edificer, Puresteel Paladin, Sigarda's Aid) - Carrier protection: Phasing, indestructibility, protection and shroud effects keep the suited-up creature alive, backing up Chromium's own hexproof mode. (Bastion Protector, Mother of Runes, Clever Concealment) - Counter-magic shell: Cheap counterspells, plus effects that tax or shut off opponents' spells during the deck's turn, guard the key combat turn against interaction. (Mana Drain, Dovin's Veto, Grand Abolisher) - Removal and resets: Efficient spot removal clears blockers and threats, while one-sided or modal sweepers reset boards that the deck can then rebuild through Chromium's flash. (Swords to Plowshares, Cyclonic Rift, Farewell) - Card flow and recursion: Steady card advantage feeds Chromium's discard cost, and recursion lands and creatures recover lost artifacts and enchantments. (Rhystic Study, Sun Titan, Zur the Enchanter)
