Tahngarth, First Mate is the centerpiece of a goad-based politics deck that weaponizes opponents against each other by forcing their creatures to attack away from you. The deck floods the board with goad effects through enchantments, creatures, and equipment to keep opponents' threats perpetually redirected, while Tahngarth himself lends out to opponents during their combat phases so he can attack alongside their forces, dealing damage without leaving you exposed. When Tahngarth is buffed to massive power through tools like Xenagos, God of Revels and combat damage amplifiers, he becomes a repeated threat that punishes opponents whether he's under your control or temporarily borrowed, and the resulting chaos of forced attacks eliminates rivals through sheer attrition.
