The deck is an Orzhov lifegain-and-drain engine built around Niv-Mizzet, Ghost Counsel. Every life-gain event can be converted into an equal number of cards by paying that much life, and the commander's tap ability pings each opponent for a reliable trigger every turn. Small lifegain triggers from creatures entering, extort and drain spells are amplified by doublers, then turned into cards, damage, or both through payoff pieces that make opponents lose life whenever life is gained or drawn. How it wins: It drains opponents out through looping gain-and-lose triggers, either by assembling Sanguine Bond or Vito-style payoffs alongside Exquisite Blood or Bloodthirsty Conqueror for an infinite loop, or by casting big X drains and firing Aetherflux Reservoir after piling up a huge life total. Key roles: - Lifegain triggers: Creatures that gain life whenever creatures enter, plus extort and incidental gain, supply the frequent small triggers that feed Niv-Mizzet, Ghost Counsel's card draw and every payoff. (Soul Warden, Suture Priest, Crypt Ghast) - Lifegain amplifiers: Doubling and plus-one effects multiply each trigger, so every gain means more cards drawn and more damage dealt. (Alhammarret's Archive, Rhox Faithmender, Cleric Class) - Gain-to-drain payoffs: Pieces that make an opponent lose life whenever life is gained turn the lifegain stream into direct damage. (Sanguine Bond, Enduring Tenacity, Marauding Blight-Priest) - Infinite loop combos: Effects that gain life whenever opponents lose it pair with the gain-to-drain payoffs to loop forever, and Aetherflux Reservoir combos with them outright. (Exquisite Blood, Bloodthirsty Conqueror, Aetherflux Reservoir) - Life as a resource: A large life total gets spent for cards and spells through the commander's draw, Bolas's Citadel and Black Market Connections, while card draw itself punishes opponents. (Bolas's Citadel, Psychosis Crawler, Sheoldred, the Apocalypse) - Big drain finishers: Mass drain spells deal heavy damage while gaining life, which sets off all the payoffs at once to close the game. (Exsanguinate, Debt to the Deathless, Gray Merchant of Asphodel) - Token Makers: Crested Sunmare and ocelot pride
