Wick, the Whorled Mind
Wick, the Whorled Mind Commander Deck
Wick, the Whorled Mind runs a Rat tribal swarm. Every Rat entering grows a single Snail, and Wick can later sacrifice that Snail for UBR to deal its power as damage to each opponent and draw that many cards. The deck floods the board with Rat tokens from lords and token engines, so the Snail keeps growing. Type-changing artifacts and enchantments make the whole team count as Rats, and possibly Snails, which multiplies triggers and turns any big creature into Wick fodder. Rat payoffs then pump the wide board into lethal attacks or drain opponents out. How it wins: It either swings with a huge, evasive, deathtouch-or-toxic Rat army pumped by mass buffs, or burns everyone out by sacrificing a heavily countered Snail to Wick alongside Impact Tremors and Valley Rotcaller drains. Key roles: - Rat token flood: Repeatable and burst Rat generation feeds the commander's Snail counters, widens the board and fuels sacrifice outlets (Marrow-Gnawer, Lord Skitter, Sewer King, Song of Totentanz) - Snail payload and counter recycling: The Snail grows with each Rat entering, then gets cashed in through Wick for damage and cards. Counters from a dying Snail are preserved and moved onto a fresh threat (Wick, the Whorled Mind, The Ozolith, Bulk Up) - Tribal unification: Effects that make every creature every type or a chosen type let nontribal creatures trigger Rat payoffs, can make any creature a sacrificable Snail, and enable spell copying (Maskwood Nexus, Leyline of Transformation, Reflections of Littjara) - Rat anthems and evasion: Lords and scaling Rats grant menace, fear, deathtouch or toxic and size up with Rat count, turning the swarm into a lethal attack (Ashcoat of the Shadow Swarm, Shared Animosity, Ogre Slumlord) - Death value and card flow: Dying creatures replace themselves with Rats or cards, so sacrifices and trades keep the engine running (Skullclamp, Totentanz, Swarm Piper, Kindred Discovery) - Enter-and-attack drain: Each Rat entering or attacking pings opponents directly, giving a non-combat route to close games (Impact Tremors, Valley Rotcaller)
