Phenax, God of Deception
Phenax, God of Deception Commander Deck
Phenax, God of Deception turns every creature into a mill engine. Each one can tap to mill a target player equal to its toughness, so the deck is packed with high-toughness walls and defenders, mill amplifiers, and creatures that grow as graveyards fill. Untap effects let those creatures tap repeatedly, while counterspells and stall pieces keep the board safe. Phenax rarely becomes a creature itself, so it works as an indestructible enchantment that gives everything the ability. How it wins: It decks every opponent by stacking repeated Phenax tap-mills, mill spells and the multiplying effects of Bruvac and The Water Crystal, with the Bruvac half-library combos and The Mindskinner plus Syr Konrad loop as faster finishes. Key roles: - High-toughness millers: Defenders and walls with large toughness, which Phenax turns into heavy mill outlets while they also block attackers (Charix, the Raging Isle, Tree of Perdition, Wall of Frost). - Mill multipliers: Effects that double or add to every mill, turning each Phenax activation and mill spell into a much larger chunk of library, and turning half-library spells into combo kills (Bruvac the Grandiloquent, The Water Crystal, Fraying Sanity). - Untap and haste enablers: Cards that let creatures use the Phenax tap ability the turn they arrive or more than once per turn, and that trigger untap-based synergies (Thousand-Year Elixir, Dramatic Reversal, Mesmeric Orb). - Graveyard-scaling bodies: Creatures and equipment whose toughness grows with the cards in graveyards, so the more the deck mills, the bigger their Phenax activations get, feeding back into itself (Consuming Aberration, Mortivore, Bonehoard). - Big mill spells and engines: Burst spells and recurring triggers that take large portions of libraries and close games, including the Bruvac combo pieces (Maddening Cacophony, Cut Your Losses, Court of Cunning). - Damage-to-mill conversion: A small package that turns damage and creature cards hitting graveyards into mill or extra damage, forming a near-infinite loop with The Mindskinner and Syr Konrad, the Grim (The Mindskinner, Syr Konrad, the Grim, Mindcrank). - Control and stalling: Counterspells, many of which mill as well, plus attack taxes and combat restrictions that protect the slow engine while it grinds opponents out (Propaganda, Silent Arbiter, Didn't Say Please).
