Breena rewards attacks aimed at whichever opponent is ahead on life: the attacker draws a card, and Breena's controller puts two +1/+1 counters on a creature they control, whether the attacker is this deck or a rival. The deck leans hard into that politics. Attack taxes and redirect effects make attacking this player costly, a forced-attack clock pushes the whole table into combat, and tap-on-entry effects leave opponents' fresh blockers useless, so rivals keep hitting each other and feeding Breena. Meanwhile a low-curve, dense +1/+1 counter engine built on counter doublers, proliferate and counter-spreaders turns every Breena trigger and incidental counter into a growing, evasive board. How it wins: It grows a wide team of counter-laden creatures that gain flying, menace, first strike or lifelink, then swings over a table that has been weakening itself, often doubling damage, while one-sided sweepers, repeatable drain and discard clear the way. Key roles: - Forced combat and deflection: A symmetrical clock punishes every player who doesn't attack, and attack taxes plus voluntary-counter offers make this player the costly or forbidden target, so the table's attacks land on each other and keep Breena triggering (Angel's Trumpet, Ghostly Prison, Nils, Discipline Enforcer). - Breena upkeep and tempo: Opponents' new creatures enter tapped and can't chump right away, so they take more hits from each other. Symmetrical reveal-and-lose-life effects break the life-total ties that would turn off Breena's trigger and give backup card draw if Breena is removed (Authority of the Consuls, Keen Duelist, Blind Obedience). - Cheap evasive threats: Low-cost fliers come down early, become prime targets for Breena's counters, and grind opponents down by forcing discards or proliferating when they connect, in keeping with the deck's low curve (Oona's Blackguard, Grateful Apparition, Drana, Liberator of Malakir). - Counter amplification and spreading: Replacement effects add extra counters, and spreaders and payoffs fan single placements into board-wide growth and card draw (Lae'zel, Vlaakith's Champion, Yoshimaru, Beloved Companion, Cathars' Crusade). - Keyword lords and combat finishers: Creatures with counters gain flying, menace, first strike or lifelink, and double strike and combat-damage growth turn the evasive board into lethal swings (Abzan Falconer, Hagra Constrictor, Duelist's Heritage). - Asymmetric board control: Wipes that spare creatures with counters, plus counter-fueled removal, reset opponents while keeping the built-up team (Damning Verdict, Retribution of the Ancients, Settle the Wreckage).
