Food
Merry, Warden of Isengard & Pippin, Warden of Isengard Commander Deck
This is a Food tokens deck in Abzan. It churns out Food from nearly every source: enter-the-battlefield makers, end-step makers, and token doublers such as Peregrin Took, Chatterfang and Academy Manufactor. Each artifact entering triggers Merry once per turn for a lifelink Soldier, while Pippin turns spare mana into more Food and later cashes four Foods in for a team-wide +3/+3 and haste. The Food is then sacrificed for value: card draw, mana, drain and recursion. Payoffs fire on token creation and sacrifice, alongside lifegain and +1/+1 counter growth. How it wins: It grinds opponents down with repeated drain from making and sacrificing tokens and Food, then finishes with a wide, pumped board of tokens and Halflings swinging under Pippin, Night of the Sweets' Revenge or Provisions Merchant. Key roles: - Token multipliers: These replacement effects and copiers turn every Food or creature token into several, flooding the board with artifacts and bodies. That feeds sacrifice costs and Pippin's four-Food cost (Chatterfang, Squirrel General, Peregrin Took, Academy Manufactor). - Food production engines: Repeatable sources keep a steady stream of Food coming each turn, which also keeps Merry's once-per-turn Soldier trigger firing (Gyome, Master Chef, Sam, Loyal Attendant, Transmutation Font). - Sacrifice and drain payoffs: Outlets and triggers turn each token made or sacrificed into life loss for opponents, card draw, or mana (Mirkwood Bats, Nadier's Nightblade, The Sackville-Bagginses). - Food as mana and card advantage: Foods become mana rocks, draw cards and tutor lands, which fuels big plays and keeps the hand full (Night of the Sweets' Revenge, Bag End Banquet, Greta, Sweettooth Scourge). - Counters and lifegain growth: Token creation, lifegain and sacrifices put +1/+1 counters on creatures, and Icing Manipulator turns those counters back into Food. This builds large threats like Food-fed Halflings (Rosie Cotton of South Lane, Treebeard, Gracious Host, Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest). - Recursion loops: Recursive creatures and graveyard-return effects let the deck reuse fodder and key pieces, creating repeated drain and Food value (Cauldron Familiar, Witch's Oven, Samwise Gamgee).
