Tergrid, God of Fright // Tergrid's Lantern
Tergrid, God of Fright // Tergrid's Lantern Commander Deck
Mono-black Tergrid control turns symmetrical and one-sided edicts, sacrifice taxes and forced discard into card advantage: every nontoken permanent an opponent sacrifices, or permanent card they discard, can be stolen onto Tergrid's side of the board. The sacrifice plan leans on cheap creatures whose enter or death triggers force each player to sacrifice. Sacrifice outlets and recursion let the deck pay its own symmetrical costs and re-trigger them. Ongoing lock pieces like Braids, Archfiend and Bottomless Pit strip opponents' resources every turn, and Tergrid's Lantern adds a repeatable sacrifice-or-discard tax when the God isn't out. How it wins: Opponents' boards and hands are ground down while their stolen threats join a growing army, and discard-punishing damage, life drain and evasive fliers finish them off. Key roles: - Edict creatures: Cheap bodies whose enter or death triggers force every player to sacrifice a creature, feeding Tergrid while the deck's own fodder is expendable (Fleshbag Marauder, Plaguecrafter, Accursed Marauder). - Sacrifice locks and sweepers: Recurring upkeep or end-step sacrifice effects and mass symmetric sacrifice spells devastate opponents' boards, ideally while Tergrid collects the pieces (Braids, Cabal Minion, Archfiend of Depravity, Pox Plague). - Sacrifice outlets and value: Free outlets and death payoffs turn the deck's own fodder into scry, cards and extra edicts on opponents (Viscera Seer, Dictate of Erebos, Morbid Opportunist). - Recursion and resilience: Death-return tricks and graveyard-to-library lands rebuy edict creatures and protect key bodies through the board wipes the deck causes (Undying Evil, Supernatural Stamina, Mortuary Mire). - Discard engine: Hand attacks, ongoing discard taxes and wheel effects empty opponents' hands, flipping permanent cards to Tergrid and fueling draw and token payoffs (Bottomless Pit, Syphon Mind, Waste Not). - Punisher damage and drain: Discard-triggered damage, black devotion drain and life-loss taxes turn the forced attrition into lethal pressure (Megrim, Tinybones, Pocket Nuisance, Gray Merchant of Asphodel).
