My Other Commander is a 7/5 Scute Swarm
Volrath, the Shapestealer Commander Deck
This deck is a Sultai counters deck built around Volrath, the Shapestealer. Volrath uses his combat-step -1/-1 counter to mark creatures. He then pays {1} to become a 7/5 copy of the best creature with any counter on it, such as an opponent's threat, a pumped Hydra, or a utility engine. The rest of the list feeds this. Part of it piles +1/+1 counters onto its own creatures and doubles them. Another part turns -1/-1 counters into tokens, drain, card draw and stolen creatures. Clone effects and evasion turn the large bodies into lethal damage. How it wins: It builds huge counter-laden creatures, or copies them with Volrath and clones, then makes them unblockable or wins through overwhelming combat, with drain and poison as backup. Key roles: - +1/+1 counter growth and doubling: These cards put extra counters on creatures as they enter or each combat, then double or proliferate them. Every creature becomes a large, legal copy target for Volrath, the Shapestealer (Kalonian Hydra, Master Biomancer, Vorel of the Hull Clade). - -1/-1 counter payoffs: Volrath, the Shapestealer's combat counter, along with wither and sacrifice outlets, triggers engines that create tokens, drain opponents, draw cards, or reanimate the weakened creatures (Nest of Scarabs, Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons, Yawgmoth, Thran Physician). - Clones and shapeshifting: Copy effects duplicate the best counter-bearing threat or engine. The legend-rule bypass lets duplicates of legendary creatures stack up alongside Volrath, the Shapestealer's own copying (Spark Double, Sakashima of a Thousand Faces, Phyrexian Metamorph). - Targeting and theft: Volrath, the Shapestealer's targeted trigger and copy ability turn into creature theft. Counter-granting effects on opposing creatures also draw cards (Willbreaker, Generous Patron). - Power-based ramp and draw: The deck's high power totals pay for big mana and refill the hand. Volrath, the Shapestealer's fixed 7 power is the floor for these effects (Selvala, Heart of the Wilds, The Great Henge, Return of the Wildspeaker). - Evasion and finishers: Unblockability and blocking restrictions push the oversized counter creatures through, with infect as an alternate kill (Herald of Secret Streams, Champion of Lambholt, Blighted Agent).
