Maralen, Fae Ascendant
Maralen, Fae Ascendant Commander Deck
Maralen turns every Elf and Faerie that enters into a raid on an opponent's library. Each one exiles their top two cards, and once per turn the deck can cast one of those cards for free if its mana value is no higher than the number of Elves and Faeries it controls. The deck plays a dense tribal creature count, padded out with changelings, tokens and flash Faeries, so the free-spell ceiling keeps rising and the theft triggers fire on both its own turn and opponents' turns. The stolen spells, plus Villainous Wealth and Dream Harvest, generate card advantage on top of a growing board. How it wins: It builds a wide, pumped board of Elves and fliers fed by stolen spells, then closes with combat damage backed by drain triggers from Faeries and Elves entering. Key roles: - Tribal density and changelings: Creatures and tokens that count as both Elf and Faerie raise Maralen's free-cast threshold and trigger her exile on entry. Equipment and kindred cards that grant every creature type stretch this further (Changeling Wayfinder, Stalactite Dagger, Firdoch Core). - Flash Faeries on opponents' turns: Instant-speed fliers trigger exile at end of turn and turn off-turn casting into cards and surveil, while also tapping or countering threats (Glen Elendra Guardian, Voracious Tome-Skimmer, Faebloom Trick). - Stealing opponents' libraries: Big cast-from-exile spells mirror Maralen's engine and can swing a game with a pile of free stolen cards (Villainous Wealth, Dream Harvest). - Elf lords and mana: Anthems and Elf-scaled mana grow the army and fund multiple casts in a turn (Elvish Archdruid, Morcant's Loyalist, Topiary Lecturer). - Entry drains and -1/-1 pressure: Elves and Faeries entering bleed opponents through life loss and forced blight. Proliferate and sweeping -1/-1 counters punish opposing boards (Obyra, Dreaming Duelist, High Perfect Morcant, Dawnhand Eulogist). - Self-mill and tribal recursion: Mill effects stock the graveyard with Elves, which is then mass-reanimated or recurred to retrigger entry effects, while clones copy the best creature (Bloodline Bidding, Elvish Regrower, Progenitor Mimic).
