Heroes in a Half Shell Commander Deck
Heroes in a Half Shell leads an all-Turtle tribal deck, and the list is meant to be trimmed to a legal 100 cards around its core engines. The commander rewards every Mutant, Ninja or Turtle that connects in combat with a +1/+1 counter and a card. The list is a dense creature curve of Turtles and Mutant Ninja Turtles, most carrying the relevant types, so combat damage turns into growth and card advantage. Around that sit three engines: a +1/+1 counter package that amplifies and multiplies counters, evasion and extra-combat effects that make sure attackers connect, and sneak and ninjutsu tricks that return unblocked attackers and drop new threats into combat. Big-toughness Turtle walls become real attackers through toughness-as-damage effects and tribal pumps, while plain walls and Turtles with no tie to these engines are the loosest fit. How it wins: It swarms opponents with growing, evasive Turtles and Ninjas, then multiplies the damage with double strike, damage doubling and extra combat phases to finish in one or two big turns. Key roles: - Counter growth and payoffs: These cards stack extra +1/+1 counters on top of the commander's combat counters, then turn countered creatures into card draw, harder-to-block attackers or doubled damage. (Michelangelo, Weirdness to 11, Raphael, the Muscle, Mikey & Leo, Chaos & Order) - Sneak and ninjutsu tempo: Unblocked attackers are bounced to cast Ninja Turtles cheaply, already tapped and attacking. This dodges blockers, re-triggers enter effects and adds pump or double strike in the middle of combat. (Raphael, the Nightwatcher, Leonardo, Leader in Blue, The Last Ronin's Technique) - Evasion to connect: Unblockable grants, menace and blocking limits make sure enough tribal attackers deal combat damage to trigger the commander every turn. (Taeko, the Patient Avalanche, Mistford River Turtle, Turtle Lair) - Extra combats and multipliers: Untap-and-repeat combat effects, double strike and damage doubling multiply both the damage and the commander's draw-and-grow triggers. (Raphael, Tag Team Tough, Raph & Leo, Sibling Rivals, Leonardo, Sewer Samurai) - Shell walls as attackers: Defensive high-toughness Turtles become threats when creatures deal damage equal to their toughness and Turtles get tribal pumps, so the deck can both hold the ground and hit hard. (Bedrock Tortoise, Turtle Power!, The Pride of Hull Clade) - Tokens and Mutagen synergy: Token makers combine with token doubling into Mutagen artifacts and once-per-turn team-wide counters, which feeds the counter engine and artifact-based payoffs. (Donatello, the Brains, Leonardo, the Balance, Slash, Reptile Rampager)
