Shalai and Hallar Commander Deck
This deck is a lifegain and +1/+1 counters engine that turns Shalai and Hallar into a damage cannon. A wide field of cheap creatures grows whenever the player gains life, and every batch of counters makes Shalai and Hallar deal that much damage to a target opponent. Lifelink sources, life-gain triggers and instant-speed counter spells feed this loop. Giving the commander itself lifelink is the hidden key: its damage then gains life, which places more counters, which deals more damage. How it wins: It burns opponents out through repeated Shalai and Hallar triggers, either incrementally from many small lifegain and counter events each turn or all at once by giving Shalai and Hallar lifelink alongside Light of Promise or Heroic Feast for an unbounded damage loop. Key roles: - Lifegain-to-counter growers: A large suite of creatures that each gain a +1/+1 counter whenever the player gains life, so a single life event can fire Shalai and Hallar several times while building a threatening board. (Ajani's Pridemate, Voice of the Blessed, Titanbones, Towering Heart) - Infinite loop enablers: Enchantments that convert life gained into counters, either many on one creature or one each on many creatures. Once Shalai and Hallar's own damage gains life, these create a self-sustaining loop of damage, life and counters. (Light of Promise, Heroic Feast, Lyra, Archangel of Dawn) - Lifelink granters: Auras, soulbond, lands and pump spells hand out lifelink, ideally to the commander, to close the combo or turn combat damage into more counter triggers. (Lifelink, Nearheath Pilgrim, Rune of Sustenance) - Direct counter placement: Cheap instants, sorceries and lands put +1/+1 counters straight onto creatures, giving immediate Shalai and Hallar damage. Many double as protection or fight removal. (Snakeskin Veil, Take Up the Shield, Requisition Raid) - Small life pings: Repeatable or incidental life gain triggers every grower at once, multiplying the damage output. (Prosperous Innkeeper, Revitalize, Sapseep Forest) - Commander protection and card flow: Protection spells keep the fragile engine pieces alive, while once-per-turn draw rewards keep the cheap creature stream flowing. (Gods Willing, Tocasia's Welcome, Exemplar of Light)
