Ares, God of War
Ares, God of War Commander Deck
This is an aggressive Rakdos aristocrats deck built around Ares, God of War, which returns any attacking creature that dies to its owner's hand. That turns every combat into a no-lose proposition: creatures attack, die in combat or get sacrificed mid-attack to outlets, then come back to hand to be recast. Haste enablers let them swing again immediately, and every cast and death fuels drain, damage, card draw and Treasure engines. Self-sacrificing attackers like Ball Lightning and decayed creatures become reusable threats, because their sacrifice happens while they are still attacking. How it wins: Repeated hasty attacks and recasts, combined with layered death and enter triggers, drain and ping opponents out, with Fling, Goblin Bombardment and Kratos's end-step damage closing out the last points of life. Key roles: - Recurring disposable attackers: Creatures that sacrifice themselves or trade off in combat go back to hand under Ares, so they work as repeatable burst damage and repeatable death triggers rather than one-shot cards. (Ball Lightning, Lightning Skelemental, Rot-Curse Rakshasa) - Haste and extra combat: Effects that give everything haste let returned creatures be recast and attack the same turn, and extra combat steps multiply the attack-die-return loop. (The Fire Crystal, Combat Celebrant, Mass Hysteria) - Sacrifice outlets: Free sacrifice lets attackers die on demand after blockers are declared or before removal resolves, so Ares returns them while they generate mana, damage or cards. (Ashnod's Altar, Goblin Bombardment, Phyrexian Tower) - Death payoffs: Drain, ping and edict triggers convert each attacking creature's death into life loss for opponents and a shrinking board for them. (Zulaport Cutthroat, Judith, the Scourge Diva, Grave Pact) - Cards and mana from deaths: Draw and Treasure engines refuel the hand and pay for recasting the returned creatures, keeping the loop going turn after turn. (Skullclamp, Garna, Bloodfist of Keld, Pitiless Plunderer) - Sacrifice spells and cast payoffs: Instants that sacrifice an attacker draw cards or deal damage while Ares returns the creature, and enter triggers punish opponents each time it is recast. (Fling, Nasty End, Impact Tremors)
