Kaalia of the Vast is a four-mana flier that cheats huge Angels, Demons and Dragons from hand straight into combat each time she attacks an opponent. That skips their seven-to-nine mana costs, and many of them get value on entering or on dealing combat damage. The rest of the deck exists to get Kaalia attacking safely and early: haste and shroud equipment, protection spells, tutors that refill the hand with fatties, and effects that stop opponents from answering her on the controller's own turn. How it wins: Kaalia repeatedly drops evasive giants into combat, extra combat phases and damage doubling end opponents quickly, and the Master of Cruelties trick of setting a life total to 1 and then finishing it off closes out a single player. Key roles: - Cheat targets with impact: big fliers put in through Kaalia of the Vast that remove permanents, punish players they hit, or steal and wipe boards as soon as they land or connect (Angel of Despair, Lord of the Void, Balefire Dragon). - Haste and protection for the commander: equipment and cheap instants keep Kaalia of the Vast alive and attacking the turn she comes down, through removal and blockers alike (Lightning Greaves, Swiftfoot Boots, Gods Willing). - Extra combats and damage multiplication: untap-and-attack-again effects let Kaalia of the Vast trigger again, and damage doubling turns one swing into lethal pressure (Aurelia, the Warleader, All-Out Assault, Gisela, Blade of Goldnight). - Master of Cruelties finisher: dropped in by Kaalia of the Vast, it attacks alone, and an unblocked hit drops a player to 1, so any follow-up damage finishes them (Master of Cruelties, Crackling Doom, Boros Charm). - Finding the payload: tutors and creature-type card selection keep Angels, Demons and Dragons in hand for Kaalia of the Vast to cheat in (Kaalia, Zenith Seeker, Rune-Scarred Demon, Razaketh, the Foulblooded). - Locking out opponents' answers: effects that silence or tax opponents during this player's turn, plus a board-wide indestructible effect, keep the attack step clean and the board safe from wipes (Grand Abolisher, Defense Grid, Avacyn, Angel of Hope).
