Grima
Gríma, Saruman's Footman Commander Deck
Gríma is an unblockable evasive threat whose combat damage forces opponents to flip their libraries until they hit an instant or sorcery, which the deck casts for free. The list is built to multiply and reward those connections. Double strike and extra combat equipment, trigger doublers and copiers, and clones of Gríma mean each hit steals more spells. A dense package of "whenever you cast an instant or sorcery" and "cast a spell you don't own" payoffs turns every stolen spell into cards, tokens, Treasure or life loss, all backed by a heavy suite of cheap counterspells, removal and anti-attack defenses. How it wins: Repeated unblockable hits from Gríma and its copies chain free stolen spells into an overwhelming board of Demons, Constructs, Sharks and Fractals and into Ancient Cellarspawn life drain, while counters and fog-style defenses keep opponents from racing back. Key roles: - Spell-theft engine: These cards turn combat damage or the stack into free casts from opponents' libraries, graveyards or exile, alongside Gríma, Saruman's Footman. Memory Lapse and Hinder can put a countered spell back on top of a library so the next reveal finds it. (Arcane Heist, Synthesis Pod, Mind's Dilation) - Trigger multiplication: Extra combats, double strike and ability-copying artifacts make each connection fire Gríma's trigger several times. (Genji Glove, Wizard's Staff, Strionic Resonator) - Clone the thief: Copy effects turn other bodies into extra Gríma attackers, and Auton Soldier's myriad hits every opponent at once. (Auton Soldier, Irma, Part-Time Mutant, Loki, Lord of Misrule) - Free-spell payoffs: Casting stolen or cheated spells creates Demons, Treasure and life loss for opponents. Anything cast for free drains them through Ancient Cellarspawn. (Tasha, the Witch Queen, Gonti, Night Minister, Ancient Cellarspawn) - Spellcast value: Instant and sorcery triggers draw cards, copy spells and build sizable token armies from both stolen and native spells. (Metallurgic Summonings, Swarm Intelligence, Archmage of Runes) - Combat connection rewards and defense: Auras and enchantments draw on every hit, while a cheap interaction suite of counters and spot removal, plus attack deterrents, keeps the attacker alive and blunts opponents' offense. (Enduring Curiosity, Propaganda, Aetherspouts)
