Kotis, the Fangkeeper Commander Deck
Kotis voltron. The deck suits up its indestructible commander with auras, equipment and Backgrounds, gives it evasion, and connects. Each hit exiles that many cards off the defender's library, and Kotis lets the deck cast any of them with mana value up to the damage dealt for free. Bigger and repeated hits mean more stolen spells. A sacrifice-fodder package of small creatures and tokens feeds the sac-based pump pieces and card draw that keep the commander growing and the hand full. How it wins: Kotis takes out opponents with heavy commander damage, often doubled by double strike or turned into a card flood by draw-on-damage effects, while the free spells it steals from each opponent's library snowball the board. Key roles: - Pumping the commander: auras, equipment and Backgrounds turn the 2/1 Kotis into a huge threat, which raises both its commander damage and the mana value of spells it can steal (Raised by Giants, Cultist of the Absolute, Demonmail Hauberk). - Evasion and trample: unblockability, flying and trample make sure Kotis actually deals combat damage, since its trigger only fires on damage to a player (Aqueous Form, Key to the City, Rancor). - Multiplying the hit: double strike triggers Kotis twice per combat, damage-based card draw cashes in big hits, and doubling +1/+1 counters scales it quickly (Fireshrieker, Hunter's Insight, Hydra's Growth). - Sacrifice fodder and payoffs: cheap creatures, spawn tokens and Zombie armies are sacrificed to equip, pump, draw cards or grow counters on the commander, with indestructibility letting Kotis survive its own Background's upkeep sacrifice (Skullclamp, Sadistic Glee, Carrion Feeder). - Zombie token engine: amass effects and recursive Zombies build a stream of bodies that feeds both the sacrifice outlets and extra token production (Endless Ranks of the Dead, Dreadhorde Invasion, Gravecrawler). - Keeping the voltron alive: hexproof effects, counterspells and cheap interaction protect the investment in Kotis and clear blockers or threats (Swiftfoot Boots, Canopy Cover, Tyvar's Stand).
