Karlach
Hardy Outlander & Karlach, Fury of Avernus Commander Deck
Karlach turns every attack into two combat phases with first strike, and Hardy Outlander makes each commander attack pump another creature by the attacker's power, but only if no opponent has more life than the player being attacked. The deck is a Gruul big-creature combat deck. It ramps into power-4-plus threats, cheats them out with put-into-play effects, and stacks extra-combat and untap effects so its biggest bodies hit repeatedly. Most of the support (trample, card draw, cost reduction, protection) keys off "power 4 or greater." How it wins: It swings through multiple combat phases with oversized, trampling, pumped creatures, while Karlach and Hardy Outlander pile damage onto the life leader, until opponents die to combat damage. Key roles: - Extra combats and untaps: These stack additional combat phases on top of Karlach's, so each turn's attacks multiply and Hardy Outlander's pump triggers again. (Combat Celebrant, Port Razer, Aggravated Assault) - Power-4 payoffs: These reward having big creatures with cheaper spells, card draw on entry or attack, and team-wide trample and pumps. (Goreclaw, Terror of Qal Sisma, Garruk's Uprising, Bitter Work) - Cheating and discovering threats: These put fatties into play from hand, or cast free spells from the library, skipping their costs and adding haste for immediate attacks. (Sneak Attack, Elvish Piper, Etali, Primal Storm) - Ramp and attack-based mana: Dorks and land fetching feed the expensive top end, while attack triggers make or fetch extra mana that can fund spells between combats. (Klauth, Unrivaled Ancient, Loot, the Nexus, Bitterthorn, Nissa's Animus) - Pump, haste and trample enablers: These make attackers bigger, hasty and trampling, so first-strike double combats convert into lethal damage. (Halana and Alena, Partners, Rhythm of the Wild, Rising of the Day) - Combat protection and fight removal: Hexproof and indestructible tricks keep key attackers alive, and fight effects use their big power to clear blockers. (Tyvar's Stand, Overprotect, Bite Down)
