Samut, Tyrant of Naktamun Commander Deck

by Seayn100 cards

Mono-blue counter-control. It packs a dense suite of cheap counterspells, most of them soft "unless its controller pays" counters that Samut, Tyrant of Naktamun makes uncounterable and unanswerable through split second. The deck sits on islands and taxes or stops every relevant opposing spell while building toward a top end of huge mana-value-9-plus threats. These are mostly Eldrazi with cast triggers, plus extra-turn sorceries and Omniscience. Ramp from artifacts, High Tide and Mana Drain carries it into that top end. How it wins: Once the board is locked down, it resolves one or two colossal Eldrazi or similar fatties, protects them with counters, and attacks through annihilator, infect or sheer size, often with extra turns, until opponents fold. Key roles: - Split-second counter wall: With Samut, Tyrant of Naktamun out, the many cheap taxing and hard counters can't be responded to or have their costs dodged by instant-speed tricks, which reliably shuts down opposing key spells. (Mana Leak, Counterspell, Force Spike) - Eldrazi cast-trigger threats: The giant creatures get value the moment they're cast, drawing cards, exiling or destroying permanents, or making tokens, so they matter even if they're answered. Their annihilator and evasion then end games quickly. (Kozilek, Butcher of Truth, Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger, Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre) - Big mana acceleration: Mana rocks, an island-doubling instant, and counters that refund mana bridge the gap from cheap interaction to nine- and ten-drops. A free-casting enchantment removes costs entirely. (Mana Drain, High Tide, Omniscience) - Mana-value-9 tutor package: One leviathan transmutes for any nine-drop, or on entering fetches every nine-drop in the library. This assembles the top-end threats. (Grozoth, Breaching Leviathan, Artisan of Kozilek) - Extra turns and theft: Big sorceries grant extra turns or steal opponents' resources, and split second keeps them from being countered. This snowballs a single resolved threat into a win. (Time Stretch, Expropriate, Temporal Trespass) - Graveyard spell payoffs: The pile of spent counterspells in the graveyard discounts and powers delve and spell-count cards, which recast instants for free and shrink their costs. (The Dawning Archaic, Octavia, Living Thesis, Logic Knot)
