Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow
Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow Commander Deck
Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow runs a tempo Ninja deck. Cheap evasive creatures and unblockable 1-power bodies connect early, then are swapped out through ninjutsu, including Yuriko's own commander ninjutsu from the command zone. Every Ninja that deals combat damage reveals the top card for card advantage and drains each opponent by that card's mana value. To make those drains hit hard, the deck stacks its library: top-of-deck manipulation sets up huge mana value cards, like a 15-drop Avatar and expensive delve spells, while a dense suite of free and cheap counters and removal protects the board. How it wins: Repeated Yuriko triggers from multiple Ninjas drain the table out with high mana value reveals, with Doomsday into Thassa's Oracle as a compact alternate win when the drain plan stalls. Key roles: - Evasive enablers: Zero- and one-drop flyers, unblockable changelings and an unblockability anthem for low-power creatures make sure something connects early to trigger ninjutsu, and changelings also count as Ninjas for Yuriko's trigger. (Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive, Changeling Outcast, Ornithopter) - Ninjutsu payoffs: Ninjas drop in tapped and attacking, each adding its own combat-damage reward on top of Yuriko's, such as card draw, Treasure, bounce, self-copies, or cost reduction and anthems that speed up chains. (Silver-Fur Master, Ingenious Infiltrator, Thousand-Faced Shadow) - Top-deck stacking: Tutors that put a card on top, plus library manipulation, line up high mana value cards for Yuriko to reveal, turning one hit into a lethal-sized drain. (Lim-Dûl's Vault, Scheming Symmetry, Brainstorm) - Drain fodder: Cards with inflated mana value that are cheap or free to cast through delve or cost reduction double as massive Yuriko reveals. (Shadow of Mortality, Temporal Trespass, Dig Through Time) - Free interaction: Pitch spells, Phyrexian-mana spells and one-mana counters and removal hold up a tempo shell while mana goes into ninjutsu, protecting the combo turn and clearing blockers. (Force of Despair, Flare of Denial, Misdirection) - Doomsday combo: Doomsday builds a five-card pile that Thassa's Oracle wins off, with fast mana and tutors to assemble it. (Doomsday, Thassa's Oracle, Dark Ritual)
