Volrath the Fallen

Volrath the Fallen Commander Deck

by colossal_pest98 cards

Mono-black reanimator that treats Volrath the Fallen as a discard outlet: pitching huge creatures to Volrath both pumps him by their mana value and stocks the graveyard with fatties like Archon of Cruelty, It That Betrays, Pathrazer of Ulamog and Sheoldred. A deep suite of reanimation spells and recursion enchantments then cheats those threats into play early, backed by Swamp-based ritual mana that can hard-cast or rebuy them. Volrath can also close games as a lone, evasive, massively pumped beater. How it wins: It reanimates or ramps out oversized threats with annihilator, edicts and drain effects to lock opponents down, or pumps an unblockable Volrath with discarded fatties for a lethal commander swing. Key roles: - Discard and self-mill setup: Volrath's own ability, other discard outlets and graveyard tutors put the biggest creatures into the yard. Expensive cards like Shadowgrange Archfiend via madness turn the discard into value. (Tortured Existence, Entomb, Key to the City) - Reanimation package: Cheap spells and repeatable engines return the discarded fatties to the battlefield, including mass and two-for-one reanimation. (Animate Dead, Reanimate, Living Death) - Recursion loop: Graveyard creatures go back to hand or the top of the library to be re-discarded to Volrath or recast, or reused each turn by persistent reanimators. (Volrath's Stronghold, Phyrexian Reclamation, Sheoldred, Whispering One) - Swamp and devotion mana: Swamp-doubling, rituals and Swamp-count or devotion lands generate enough black mana to hard-cast huge creatures and activate Volrath repeatedly. Gray Merchant cashes in that same devotion as a drain. (Cabal Coffers, Crypt Ghast, Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx) - Lockdown fatties: Annihilator, edicts and stealing opponents' sacrificed permanents strip boards apart once the giants land. (It That Betrays, Archon of Cruelty, Pathrazer of Ulamog) - Voltron evasion for Volrath: Unblockability, shadow, fear, swampwalk and protection let a hugely pumped Volrath connect. Infect or a big-power drain can turn that size into a kill. (Whispersilk Cloak, Dauthi Embrace, Essence Harvest)
