Awww Rats!
Totentanz, Swarm Piper Commander Deck
Rat tribal aggro. Totentanz turns every nontoken creature death into a 1/1 Rat token that can't block, so trades, board wipes and removal on its own creatures all refill the board. A wide swarm of Rats and token makers is then pumped by Rat lords and anthems, and its deathtouch, menace and trample let small bodies push through blockers or kill whatever blocks them. Death triggers are doubled, a sweeper package leaves the token army standing, and life-drain effects add damage outside combat. How it wins: It floods the board with Rats, scales them with tribal pumps, evasion and deathtouch for lethal alpha strikes (with toxic as a side angle), and finishes through drain from devotion, lifegain and Wicked Roles. Key roles: - Rat token generation: These cards make cheap Rat bodies in bulk, from spells, enter triggers, activated abilities and death or leave triggers, to go wide alongside Totentanz. (Song of Totentanz, Rat King, Pale Piper, Piper of the Swarm) - Death-trigger amplification: These cards turn each nontoken death into extra value, such as additional Rats, growing creatures or doubled triggers on the equipped creature, so trades and sacrifices come out ahead. (The Masamune, Ogre Slumlord, Voracious Vermin) - Rat lords and scaling: These cards pump Rats based on how many Rats the deck controls, or grant team-wide bonuses, turning a field of 1/1s into a real threat. (Ashcoat of the Shadow Swarm, Rat Colony, Twisted Sewer-Witch) - Evasion and combat keywords: Deathtouch, menace and trample let Rats that can't block attack freely, making blocks lethal for opponents or impossible. Totentanz's deathtouch activation and toxic on Rats add to this. (Archetype of Finality, Archetype of Aggression, Karumonix, the Rat King) - Sweepers and resilient board: Mass removal and flash removal clear blockers, while the deck's own nontoken deaths come back as Rats, so it rebuilds faster than opponents. (Necromantic Selection, Jennika's Technique, Armaggon, Future Shark) - Drain finish: Devotion drain, lifegain-to-damage conversion and per-creature pings close out games outside combat. (Gray Merchant of Asphodel, Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose, South Wind Avatar)
