Nothing Grows Here

Vilis, Broker of Blood Commander Deck

by Tenebas100 cards

Vilis turns every point of life the pilot loses into a card, so the deck pays life freely through cantrip-style draw spells, self-damaging upkeep effects and the commander's own -1/-1 activation, refilling its hand while grinding opponents down. Those cards go into an aristocrats-style board of token makers, sacrifice outlets and death-return tricks feeding Syr Konrad and Ob Nixilis, backed by mono-black punishment enchantments that drain, mill and tax opponents for drawing, casting, playing lands and searching. A heavy suite of tutors, Swamp-scaling mana and sweepers lets it dig out the Bloodchief Ascension plus Mindcrank lock or the Peer into the Abyss plus Underworld Dreams kill. How it wins: It chips opponents down with incidental drain and pinging from punishment effects and dying creatures, then finishes with Bloodchief Ascension plus Mindcrank's loop of life loss and mill, or by forcing a huge draw with Peer into the Abyss into Underworld Dreams, with the 8/8 flying commander as a backup beater. Key roles: - Life-as-fuel card engine: Spells and effects that cost the pilot life become extra card draw through Vilis's trigger, and the commander's own pay-2-life ability converts spare black mana into cards plus creature shrinking. (Night's Whisper, Dark Bargain, Dreadhorde Invasion) - Punisher lock pieces: Enchantments and artifacts that drain or damage opponents for drawing, casting, discarding, playing lands or shuffling, steadily lowering life totals and taxing their resources. (Underworld Dreams, Painful Quandary, Polluted Bonds) - Combo finishers: Bloodchief Ascension and Mindcrank loop life loss into mill until the table is dead, while Peer into the Abyss on an opponent under Underworld Dreams kills them outright; tutors assemble these pieces. (Bloodchief Ascension, Mindcrank, Peer into the Abyss) - Aristocrat death value: Token makers and recursive bodies die to sweepers and sacrifice effects, with each death pinging every opponent, growing Ob Nixilis, or returning the creature via undying-style tricks. (Syr Konrad, the Grim, Chittering Witch, Reassembling Skeleton) - Tutor and search punishment: Broad tutors find whichever lock or combo piece is missing, while Ob Nixilis and Psychogenic Probe punish opponents who search or shuffle their own libraries. (Diabolic Tutor, Ob Nixilis, Unshackled, Psychogenic Probe) - Mono-black mana and board control: Swamp-scaling rituals and Coffers effects power out the expensive commander and spells, and the same Swamp count fuels -X/-X sweepers and removal that keep the board clear. (Magus of the Coffers, Cabal Ritual, Mutilate)
