A lifegain-into-counters deck that turns Shalai and Hallar into a burn engine: every time +1/+1 counters land on any creature it controls, the commander deals that much damage to a target opponent. Lifelink grants, incidental life gain and a large suite of "whenever you gain life, put a +1/+1 counter" creatures make each life-gain event put counters on several bodies at once, and each of those counter events becomes its own damage trigger. Once Shalai and Hallar itself has lifelink, any one of those Pridemate-style creatures closes an infinite loop: the trigger damage gains life, the life gain adds a counter, and that counter fires the next trigger. How it wins: It burns opponents out through repeated Shalai and Hallar triggers, either incrementally from many counter-gaining creatures or instantly through infinite loops, made by a lifelinked commander plus any Pridemate-style creature, or by Light of Promise or Heroic Feast feeding lifelink damage back into counters, with lifelinked, oversized attackers as a combat backup. Key roles: - Infinite loops: Give Shalai and Hallar lifelink and pair it with any creature that grows when life is gained, an aura that turns life gained into that many counters, or an enchantment that spreads counters per point of life. Each completes a self-sustaining cycle of damage, life and counters that kills the table (Ajani's Pridemate, Light of Promise, Heroic Feast). - Lifegain-counter creatures: A wide spread of cheap creatures that each gain a counter whenever life is gained. A single life-gain event fires one Shalai and Hallar trigger per creature, multiplying the damage, and each one is a combo piece once the commander has lifelink, which makes the loop highly redundant (Ajani's Pridemate, Titanbones, Towering Heart, Christine Chapel, Combat Medic). - Lifelink enablers: Auras, pairing effects and combat tricks that grant lifelink or turn damage into life. Placed on the commander, they make its own trigger damage gain life, which assembles the infinite loop with any counter-on-lifegain creature (Spirit Link, Nearheath Pilgrim, Rune of Sustenance). - Direct counter tricks: Cheap instants and lands that place +1/+1 counters outright, each one a burn spell through the commander, often bundled with protection or fight, and a way to kick off a loop at instant speed (Snakeskin Veil, Take Up the Shield, Dromoka's Command). - Commander protection: Protection-from-color, hexproof and indestructible spells that keep Shalai and Hallar and key engine pieces alive through removal (Gods Willing, Loran's Escape, Vigorbloom Charm). - Growth payoffs and value: Creatures that reward accumulated counters with card draw, evasion, team pumps or redistribution of counters, including onto legendary creatures like the commander (Exemplar of Light, Qala, Ajani's Pridemate, Aerith Gainsborough).
