Ruby leads a Gruul noncombat damage deck that wins without attacking. Fight and bite spells are aimed at its own creatures to redirect damage at opponents. Brash Taunter, Pain for All, Screaming Nemesis and Red Hulk turn every point of damage they take into damage at opponents, so fighting one of the deck's own big bodies, or one an opponent controls, flings that damage straight at players. Pump and power-doubling make the fighting creature huge, and damage doublers and adders (Dictate of the Twin Gods, City on Fire, Absorbing Man and Titania, Fated Firepower, Hawkeye, Calamity Bearer) multiply both the fight damage and the redirected damage. Ruby is mainly a hasty mana dork, and the power-4 threshold matters more to Raucous Audience and Hog-Monkey Rampage than to attacking. How it wins: A fight or bite between a pumped creature and a damage redirector like Brash Taunter, a Pain for All-enchanted creature or Screaming Nemesis, stacked with doublers and adders, sends lethal damage at opponents' faces, backed by Fling, Bloodshot Cyclops and tap-to-deal-damage effects. Key roles: - Damage redirectors: Creatures and auras that convert damage dealt to them into damage at opponents. These are the true win conditions, and every fight involving them becomes face damage (Brash Taunter, Pain for All, Screaming Nemesis). - Self-fight and bite enablers: Instants, sorceries, auras and equipment make a creature fight or deal damage equal to its power. Several can target two of the player's own creatures, so a huge creature can smash into its own redirector. Some also add counters or indestructibility to keep the pieces alive (Band Together, Predatory Urge, Primal Might). - Power amplification: Pump, counters and repeated power doubling push the damage-dealing creature to lethal size. Some also grant indestructible or untap it so it can fight or tap again (Exponential Growth, Unleash Fury, Biosynthic Burst). - Damage multipliers: Global and Giant-specific doublers, triplers and flat adders inflate both the original hit and the redirected trigger, compounding into lethal (City on Fire, Dictate of the Twin Gods, Absorbing Man and Titania). - Flinging power at faces: Sacrifice outlets and tap abilities convert creature power directly into damage at any target as extra reach (Fling, Bloodshot Cyclops, Burning Anger). - Spell copying and ramp backbone: Copy effects double up the single-target creature spells. Mana dorks, Ruby included, and land ramp reach the expensive multipliers and big bodies, with Raucous Audience rewarding a 4-power creature (Leyline of Resonance, Raiding Schemes, Raucous Audience).
