This is a "gift of drawbacks" deck. It plays creatures with big bodies and harsh downsides: upkeep sacrifices, self-damage, life loss, hand-size limits, poison, attack bans and "can't win." Jon Irenicus then hands one to an opponent at each end step, with two +1/+1 counters, permanently goaded and unable to be sacrificed. The victim is stuck with the drawback while the creature is forced to attack someone other than Jon's controller, and Jon draws a card every time a creature he owns but doesn't control attacks. Spells that donate or swap control and copy creatures keep the poisoned gifts flowing, and taxes on attacking and creature-bouncing effects keep the goaded beaters pointed away from Jon's controller. How it wins: Opponents grind each other down with goaded, oversized creatures and self-destructive upkeeps (poison, half-life loss, forced sacrifices, a deadline that loses the game), while card draw from attacks fuels counterspells and more gifts, with Archfiend of the Dross plus Exchange of Words as a direct kill. Key roles: - Poisoned gifts: Bodies that punish whoever controls them: forced sacrifices, self-damage, discards, poison or losing the game. Once donated by Jon Irenicus, Shattered One they can't be sacrificed away and must attack (Lord of the Pit, Archfiend of the Dross, Phyrexian Vatmother) - Lockdown pieces for the victim: Creatures that stop their controller from casting creatures, attacking, winning or holding cards. They cripple whoever receives them, and the "can't attack" pieces also shut down that player's own team (Grid Monitor, Abyssal Persecutor, Evil Eye of Orms-by-Gore) - Extra donation and swaps: Spells that hand creatures away, or trade a drawback creature for an opponent's best threat, outside the once-per-turn end-step trigger. Some also draw cards or give away artifacts and enchantments (Wrong Turn, Fateful Handoff, Shifting Grift) - Attack-trigger card advantage: Cheap evasive creatures, copies and attack-based draw that turn goaded, owned-but-not-controlled creatures into a steady card engine alongside Jon Irenicus, Shattered One (Curse of Verbosity, Irenicus's Vile Duplication, Slither Blade) - Deflection and defense: Attack taxes, attacker limits and bounce or reclaim effects keep donated monsters from swinging back at their owner. Homeward Path can also retake gifts when needed (Propaganda, Crawlspace, Dissipation Field) - Text-box swap kill: Exchanging text boxes can saddle an opponent's creature with the Archfiend's losing deadline, or steal a strong ability for a harmless body (Exchange of Words, Archfiend of the Dross)
