Dina, Essence Brewer Commander Deck
This is a Golgari aristocrats deck. It turns a steady stream of token fodder (Pests, Spawn, Saprolings, Zombies) and recursive creatures into value by sacrificing them through a wide spread of free and cheap outlets. Dina, Essence Brewer draws a card off the first sacrifice each turn, so the deck wants a sacrifice on every player's turn, and her activated ability converts a creature's power into life and +1/+1 counters. Every death and every life gain is then multiplied by death-trigger drainers, lifegain-punishers and token doublers, which grind opponents down while refilling hand and board. How it wins: Opponents are drained out through repeated death triggers and lifegain-to-life-loss conversions, capped by mass sacrifice turns, a Massacre Wurm, or an Exsanguinate fueled by Treasure and land mana. Key roles: - Fodder engines: These recurring and token-making sources keep bodies coming every upkeep and end step so there is always something to sacrifice, and many tokens refund life or mana as they die (Beledros Witherbloom, Mycoloth, Ribtruss Roaster). - Sacrifice outlets: Free and repeatable outlets let a sacrifice happen at instant speed on any player's turn, which maximizes Dina, Essence Brewer's once-per-turn draw and enables mass sacrifice turns (Viscera Seer, Woe Strider, Umbral Collar Zealot). - Drain payoffs: Death triggers make each creature leaving the battlefield cost every opponent life while padding the deck's own life total (Blood Artist, Zulaport Cutthroat, Cauldron of Essence). - Lifegain-to-damage conversion: Pest death triggers, Dina, Essence Brewer's activation and the drainers all gain life, which these cards turn into further life loss or extra gains. Pest Rescuer's +1 bonus on every life gain amplifies this (Dina, Soul Steeper, Marauding Blight-Priest, Pest Rescuer). - Token and counter doubling: Doublers multiply Pest and Saproling output and the counters placed by devour creatures and Dina, Essence Brewer, which snowballs both fodder and future token generation (Doubling Season, Parallel Lives). - Death-fueled value and recursion: Death triggers turn into cards, Treasure, mana and returning creatures, and self-recurring threats plus reanimation, often triggered by life gain, keep the engine running through removal (Pitiless Plunderer, Skullclamp, Moseo, Vein's New Dean).
