Toph, the First Metalbender
Toph, the First Metalbender Commander Deck
Toph turns every nontoken artifact into a land, so this artifact-heavy Naya list turns cheap rocks, baubles and artifact creatures into a pool of lands. Toph and a large earthbend suite animate those lands into hasty, counter-loaded creatures that come back when they die. Landfall payoffs, +1/+1 counter multipliers and proliferate grow those land creatures. Double strike, extra combats and team-wide pump then turn them into lethal attacks. How it wins: It swarms with oversized earthbent land creatures and closes with combat steps that untap the lands, mass pump, or the Bumi untap loops with Ashaya or Toph plus Liquimetal Torque that create infinite combat phases. Key roles: - Artifacts as lands: Under Toph, each nontoken artifact is a land, so playing one triggers landfall and gives earthbend another target. Food, Clues and baubles also feed sacrifice payoffs and card draw. Lands that make artifacts out of other permanents extend this further. (Liquimetal Torque, Mycosynth Lattice, Arcbound Ravager) - Earthbending army: The repeatable and on-entry earthbend effects turn lands into hasty threats that return tapped when they die, so the board survives wipes. Double strike and doubled legendary triggers multiply this. (Avatar Kyoshi, Earthbender, Toph, Greatest Earthbender, Annie Joins Up) - Landfall engine: Extra land drops, land fetching and the artifact-lands trigger repeated landfall for counters, proliferation, tokens and burn. (Bristly Bill, Spine Sower, Evolution Sage, Tannuk, Memorial Ensign) - Counter amplification: Effects that add extra counters, double them or spread them make every earthbend and landfall trigger far larger. Counters lost when a creature dies can be moved back onto another creature. (Innkeeper's Talent, Benevolent Hydra, The Ozolith) - Untap and extra combat finish: Bumi, Unleashed untaps all lands and grants another combat for land creatures only. Making creatures or artifacts into lands turns this into infinite combats and mana. (Bumi, Unleashed, Ashaya, Soul of the Wild, Toph, Greatest Earthbender) - Overrun and protection: Team-wide pump and evasion end games outright. Self-protection that makes the land army hard to answer keeps the attack safe. (Titanic Ultimatum, Craterclaw Colossus, The Stasis Coffin)
