Rakdos, Lord of Riots
Rakdos, Lord of Riots Commander Deck
Rakdos, Lord of Riots: Big Flyers on the Cheap The deck is a Rakdos big-creature deck built around the commander's cost reduction. It makes opponents lose life early each turn, through symmetrical pingers, burn, Earthquake effects and combat, and then casts huge Demon and Dragon flyers far below their printed cost. Haste enablers and cheat-in effects let those threats hit the turn they land. The commander's discount applies only to creature spells and scales with total life opponents lost that turn, so every point of incidental damage to the table turns into cheaper bombs. Rakdos itself also needs an opponent to have lost life before it can be cast. How it wins: It overwhelms the table with a stream of hasty evasive 6- and 8-power flyers whose attack and combat-damage triggers burn, wipe boards, steal artifacts or take extra combats, finished off with life-loss reach like Exsanguinate or Archfiend of Despair's doubling. Key roles: - Life-loss enablers: These cheap, often symmetrical effects make every opponent lose life before the main phase, switching on and growing the commander's discount and meeting its casting condition (Keen Duelist, Cryptolith Fragment, Cast Away Doubt). - Haste and tempo: They let discounted fatties attack immediately, so damage triggers fire right away and each attack sets up the next turn's discount (Rising of the Day, Mass Hysteria, Ogre Battledriver). - Combat-damage dragons: These flyers convert connecting hits into Treasure, artifact theft, board wipes, extra combats or burn to multiple targets, which snowballs the board and the mana (Scourge of the Throne, Drakuseth, Maw of Flames, Hellkite Tyrant). - Demonic control and punishment: These demons tax opponents every turn with forced sacrifices, discards and life-loss doubling, and they turn the life already lost into extra pain (Archfiend of Depravity, Archfiend of Despair, Herald of Anguish). - Cheating and reanimating fatties: These cards put expensive creatures into play without casting them, or bring them back after removal, covering turns when the discount is low (Quicksilver Amulet, Victimize, Avacyn, Angel of Horror). - Card flow through self-damage and wheels: The deck refills its hand by paying life or resetting hands, and it pairs those effects with madness demons and pay-life tutors to dig for its best threats (Vilis, Broker of Blood, Knollspine Dragon, Razaketh, the Foulblooded).
