Kambal taxes opponents for casting noncreature spells, draining 2 and gaining 2 each time. The deck builds a classic Orzhov drain engine on top of that: extort creatures, aristocrat death triggers and upkeep pingers chip away at every opponent while gaining life. Lifegain-to-damage converters turn every one of those gains into more life loss, and tax pieces punish opponents for simply playing the game. How it wins: It drains the table out through stacked incremental life loss, which explodes once a lifegain converter like Sanguine Bond or Exquisite Blood loops with the other, or pairs with a big Gray Merchant or Debt to the Deathless. Key roles: - Spell taxes and punishers: Kambal, Consul of Allocation and similar pieces make opponents bleed life for casting spells, drawing cards or deploying creatures, so their own turns feed the drain (Painful Quandary, Smothering Tithe, Authority of the Consuls). - Extort network: Many cheap creatures and permanents with extort turn every spell cast into a table-wide drain. Pontiff of Blight hands extort to every other creature for multiplied triggers (Pontiff of Blight, Crypt Ghast, Basilica Screecher). - Lifegain-to-loss converters: These pieces turn each life gained into opponent life loss. Sanguine Bond or Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose combined with Exquisite Blood creates a lethal loop from any single trigger (Sanguine Bond, Exquisite Blood, Enduring Tenacity). - Lifegain payoffs: Creatures grow and draw cards off the constant trickle of life gain, becoming large threats or card engines. Amalia can wipe the board at exactly 20 power (Exemplar of Light, Karlov of the Ghost Council, Amalia Benavides Aguirre). - Aristocrat drains and recursion: Death triggers drain on every creature that dies, while recursion and token makers keep the bodies coming. Kambal, Profiteering Mayor drains whenever tokens enter (Zulaport Cutthroat, Blood Artist, Athreos, God of Passage). - Burst finishers and board control: Big devotion and X drains end games, backed by wraths and spot removal that keep opposing boards in check while the drain does its work (Gray Merchant of Asphodel, Debt to the Deathless, Withering Curse).
