Valgavoth, Terror Eater
Valgavoth, Terror Eater Commander Deck
Mono-black Valgavoth ramps hard on Swamp-based mana and mana rocks to land a 9-mana flying lifelink commander. Once it is out, opponents' cards that would hit their graveyards are exiled instead, and Valgavoth lets the deck play them on its own turn, paying life instead of mana for spells. Sacrifice effects, edicts, wraths, discard and milling feed that exile pile. The life lost paying for stolen spells is offset by lifelink and a deep drain-and-gain package, which also serves as the kill. How it wins: Valgavoth beats down in the air while drain effects and lifegain-to-life-loss engines bleed the table, capped by big drains like Gray Merchant of Asphodel or Exsanguinate fueled by huge Swamp mana. Key roles: - Swamp mana engine: Urborg and the Swamp-doubling and Swamp-counting cards turn a mono-Swamp manabase into explosive mana. This casts Valgavoth early and powers X drains and Swamp-scaled removal. (Cabal Coffers, Crypt Ghast, Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth) - Feeding the exile pile: Edicts, symmetrical sacrifice, wraths, discard, and milling push opponents' cards toward the graveyard so Valgavoth exiles them as fresh resources to cast. (Plaguecrafter, Syphon Mind, Mindcrank) - Life as a resource: Many cards cost life, and Valgavoth turns life into stolen spells. Lifelink and drains refill the total, while cost reducers and alternate payments stretch it further. (K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth, Ancient Cellarspawn, Exquisite Blood) - Drain and gain finishers: Every gain becomes opponent life loss, and devotion and X drains end games outright. Mindcrank links life loss to mill for more exile fodder. (Gray Merchant of Asphodel, Enduring Tenacity, Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose) - Death payoffs: The constant creature deaths from sacrifice and removal generate drains, mana and stolen bodies. (Blood Artist, Massacre Wurm, Meathook Massacre II) - Demon and commander access: Demon-specific mana and synergies, haste equipment, and alternate ways to put creatures into play help land and protect the big threats. (Séance Board, Unholy Annex // Ritual Chamber, Geode Golem)
