The Ur-Sphinx
The Ur-Sphinx Commander Deck
This is a cEDH-style Esper deck that plays a Sphinx tribal value shell. The Ur-Sphinx's eminence discounts Sphinx spells from the command zone, stacking with other Sphinx and color cost reducers so the big flyers come down early. Once Sphinxes attack, the commander and attack-trigger Sphinxes turn combat into free spells, card advantage and connive, while a dense suite of fast mana, tutors, stax-lite pieces and free counterspells keeps the deck ready to assemble a compact combo. How it wins: Wins by gaining advantage with displacer kitten and getting extra turns with tivit Key roles: - Sphinx cost reduction: The Ur-Sphinx's eminence, Sphinx-specific reducers and white/blue tax effects stack so six-drop Sphinxes cost a fraction of their printed price, letting the creature plan keep pace with a fast table. (Unesh, Criosphinx Sovereign, Grand Arbiter Augustin IV, Cavern of Souls) - Attack and enter triggers: Attacking with Sphinxes mills each player for The Ur-Sphinx's free casts, reveals free spells, or connives. Sphinx entries dig through piles, and doubling creature-type triggers multiplies the payoff. (Yennett, Cryptic Sovereign, Raffine, Scheming Seer, Roaming Throne) - Blink and reanimation: Flicker and reanimation effects re-trigger Sphinx entry abilities and return milled or discarded creatures. Blinking the treasure-and-clue Sphinx refuels artifacts. (Displacer Kitten, Ephemerate, Animate Dead) - Artifact and treasure engine: Fast mana rocks, treasures from tax effects and vote-driven Treasure and Clue tokens build a large artifact count. That feeds the extra-turn artifact and lets the artifact Sphinx rebuy pieces. (Tivit, Seller of Secrets, Time Sieve, Smothering Tithe) - Combo assembly: Tutors, top-of-library manipulation and tutor-chain creatures find the instant-win pair or the turn loop. The One Ring, Displacer Kitten and Teferi, Time Raveler can also form a protective lock. (Thassa's Oracle, Demonic Consultation, Vampiric Tutor) - Interaction and taxing: Free and cheap counters, sorcery-speed or no-cast-on-your-turn effects, and draw-tax enchantments shield the combo turn while punishing opponents' plays. (Force of Will, Grand Abolisher, Rhystic Study)
