Karumonix turns every Rat into a poison threat by granting toxic 1, so the mono-black plan is to flood the board with Rats, make them hard to block, and stack poison counters across the table. Rat token makers and self-copying Rats grow the swarm, and Karumonix's enter trigger refills the hand with more Rats. A sacrifice-and-recursion layer keeps the bodies flowing: Rats feed sacrifice outlets and "disappear" triggers, then come back from the graveyard, while black removal and drain effects clear the way and pick up incidental damage. How it wins: It swings with a wide, evasive Rat swarm, each Rat adding a poison counter on top of combat damage, until opponents reach ten poison, with life drain from creatures entering and dying finishing off anyone left low. Key roles: - Rat swarm: These cards build the tribal board that Karumonix's toxic grant turns into a poison clock, creating Rat tokens repeatedly or copying themselves so every new body is another poison source (Pack Rat, Piper of the Swarm, Rat King, Verminister). - Evasion and pressure: These cards give the small Rats menace so their toxic damage connects, and the tribe gets bonuses that turn chip attacks into real poison and damage (Piper of the Swarm, Ninja Teen, Splinter, Hamato Yoshi). - Sacrifice and disappear engine: Spare Rats and tokens get sacrificed for cards, Clues or steal effects, and a permanent leaving the battlefield turns on end-step "disappear" payoffs that make more creatures and counters (Rat King, Verminister, Lord Dregg, Insect Invader, June, Bounty Hunter). - Recursion and resilient bodies: Rats and other creatures return from the graveyard or leave value behind when they die, so sacrifices and board wipes cost little and Rat King's mass reanimation can rebuild the swarm (Tunnel Rats, Undercity Dire Rat, Darklight Phoenix). - Drain and attrition: Black creatures entering or dying drain opponents, and enter-the-battlefield discard strips their hands, adding reach beyond poison (Ayara, First of Locthwain, Massacre Girl, Most Wanted, Rank Rat). - Removal suite: Cheap spot removal clears blockers and threats so the low-power Rats can keep attacking (Murder, Hero's Downfall, Vraska's Final Mercy).
