Wilhelt, the Rotcleaver
Wilhelt, the Rotcleaver Commander Deck
Wilhelt, the Rotcleaver anchors a Zombie aristocrats deck. Nontoken Zombies die and leave decayed 2/2 Zombies behind, and Wilhelt's end-step sacrifice turns spare bodies into cards. Sacrifice outlets, edicts on Zombie bodies, recursion and death-trigger payoffs turn every creature into more tokens, cards, mana and life drain. Token makers, an amass Army and lord effects let the board double as an attacking force. How it wins: It drains opponents through repeated Zombie death triggers and devotion-fueled life loss, then finishes with wide, pumped Zombie boards and deathtouch attacks. Key roles: - Sacrifice outlets: Free or mana-producing ways to sacrifice Zombies on demand, so Wilhelt's token replacement and the death payoffs trigger at will and the deck can ramp or draw in the process (Ashnod's Altar, Culling the Weak, Village Rites). - Death-trigger payoffs: Creatures and enchantments that drain opponents, gain life, draw cards or make more tokens whenever Zombies die, stacking with Wilhelt into a value and damage engine (Diregraf Captain, Undead Augur, Funeral Room). - Self-replacing and recursive Zombies: Bodies that come back via persist, return to hand, reanimate other Zombies or leave tokens, so each sacrifice keeps the loop going. Self-mill and graveyard casting refill the yard as well (Putrid Goblin, Relentless Dead, Zul Ashur, Lich Lord). - Edict Zombies and copies: Zombies whose enter triggers force each player to sacrifice, effectively removal that also feeds Wilhelt. Token copies of nontoken Zombies double these enter effects, including the big drain from Gray Merchant of Asphodel (Fleshbag Marauder, Accursed Marauder, Necroduality). - Token generation and the Army: Repeatable sources of Zombie tokens and amass counters build the fodder pool and a growing threat. Creature-count mana turns a wide board into explosive turns (Cryptbreaker, Diregraf Colossus, Dreadhorde Invasion). - Lords and deathtouch combat: Anthem and deathtouch effects make the swarm and decayed tokens lethal attackers, and a self-growing sac-outlet beater removes blockers (Death Baron, Wand of Orcus, Grimgrin, Corpse-Born).
