Lightning, Army of One is a Voltron commander. It is suited up with Equipment and given double strike and extra combat phases, so its first strike and trample connect early and Stagger doubles all damage that opponent and their permanents take until the next turn. Equipment tutors, cheap equip enablers and Equipment-based card draw keep the commander armed. Multiple combat steps let the first Stagger hit double every later strike in the same turn, and Gisela stacks a second doubling on top. How it wins: Lightning, heavily equipped with double strike, tramples through for a Stagger hit, then keeps swinging in extra combats for multiplied damage, killing opponents through commander damage or raw doubled damage, with Kediss spreading each hit to the other opponents. Key roles: - Equipment tutoring and deployment: these cards find Equipment, cheat it into play or attach it for free, so Lightning is suited up without spending whole turns on equip costs (Stoneforge Mystic, Puresteel Paladin, Bruenor Battlehammer). - Double strike granting: these turn each Lightning hit into two. The first-strike damage triggers Stagger, so the regular-damage strike that follows is already doubled (Blade Historian, Reyav, Master Smith, Genji Glove). - Extra combat phases: these untap attackers and add combat steps, so a Stagger hit in the first combat makes every later attack that turn deal double damage (Aurelia, the Warleader, Karlach, Fury of Avernus, Hexplate Wallbreaker). - Damage multiplication and spread: these stack with Stagger to quadruple damage or copy the commander's combat damage to every opponent, which shortens a multiplayer game to a few swings (Gisela, Blade of Goldnight, Kediss, Emberclaw Familiar, Two-Handed Axe). - Connect-to-draw value: these Equipment and support creatures draw cards or make Treasure whenever equipped attackers swing or deal combat damage, which keeps the Voltron gear flowing (Akiri, Fearless Voyager, Buster Sword, The Reaver Cleaver). - Commander protection and evasion: hexproof, indestructible, shroud and unblockability keep Lightning alive and let the Stagger hit land (Champion's Helm, Mithril Coat, Brotherhood Regalia).
