Jace, Multiverse Architect
Jace, Multiverse Architect Commander Deck
Jace, Multiverse Architect leads a four-color control deck that keeps its planeswalker safe and filters cards with the +1, then cashes in tokens and other cheap creatures with the −3 or mass polymorph effects. Each flip reveals cards until a creature or planeswalker appears, so the only creatures in the deck are a handful of huge payoffs: demons, angels, praetors and Toxrill. Counterspells, spot removal and board wipes hold the table while the noncreature spells feed token makers and card draw engines. How it wins: The deck turns a token or a cheap body into a game-ending threat like Archon of Cruelty, Archfiend of Despair, Toxrill, Avacyn or Jin-Gitaxias, then attacks in the air behind wipes and counterspells. Key roles: - Creature cheating: Jace, Multiverse Architect's −3, the mass exile-and-reveal spells and the land-triggered reveal swap expendable bodies for whichever big creature sits next in the library, all at once in the mass versions. (Mass Polymorph, Synthetic Destiny, Proteus Staff) - Fodder tokens: Instant-speed and X-cost token spells and upkeep token makers provide cheap bodies to flip into fatties, especially at a large scale with the mass polymorph effects. (Secure the Wastes, Grand Crescendo, Lingering Souls) - Top-end payoffs: The few creatures in the deck are bombs that drain, strip resources, shrink the board or draw huge numbers of cards, so every reveal hits a threat. (Archon of Cruelty, Toxrill, the Corrosive, Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur) - Spell-cast engines: Since nearly every card is a noncreature spell, cheap cantrips and interaction turn into sharks, extra draws and story counters, and those sharks become more polymorph fodder. (Shark Typhoon, Whirlwind of Thought, Staff of the Storyteller) - Board control: One-sided wipes like the X token sweepers leave fodder behind after clearing the board, while counters and exile removal protect the planeswalker and the payoffs. (Martial Coup, White Sun's Twilight, Disallow) - Card selection: Cantrips, looting and the +1 sculpt hands and set the library top, while self-protection spells keep the board indestructible through its own sweepers. (Brainstorm, Fatehold Charm, Flawless Maneuver)
