Wilhelt, the Rotcleaver
Wilhelt, the Rotcleaver Commander Deck
Zombie tribal aristocrats built around Wilhelt, the Rotcleaver. Every nontoken Zombie that dies leaves a decayed 2/2 behind, and Wilhelt's end step sacrifice turns spare Zombies into cards. The deck fills the board with recursive and token-making Zombies, feeds them to free sacrifice outlets, and collects drain, card draw and value from each death. Graveyard recursion and mass reanimation rebuild the board after wipes, including its own. How it wins: Repeated Zombie deaths drain the table through lords and death triggers, backed by wide anthem-pumped attacks and big swings like Gray Merchant of Asphodel or a Zombie Apocalypse refill, with Gravecrawler loops on a free sacrifice outlet able to finish off opponents. Key roles: - Death payoffs and drain: Each Zombie or creature death pings every opponent or gains life, so the sacrifice loop and Wilhelt's replacement tokens add up to a steady table-wide drain. (Diregraf Captain, Vengeful Dead, Blood Artist) - Sacrifice outlets: Free or cheap ways to kill Zombies at will turn the board into fuel for drains, card draw, treasure or tutors, on top of Wilhelt's once-per-end-step sacrifice. (Carrion Feeder, Yawgmoth, Thran Physician, Warren Soultrader) - Death-fueled card draw: Zombie deaths and sacrifices refill the hand. Wilhelt's decayed tokens are ideal fodder for the clamp and the draw engines, and some scale with Zombie count instead. (Undead Augur, Skullclamp, Graveborn Muse) - Token and body generation: Wilhelt and other replacement effects make sure dying Zombies leave bodies behind, while token makers and undying keep the sacrifice chain stocked. (Headless Rider, Mikaeus, the Unhallowed, Grave Titan) - Graveyard recursion and mass reanimation: Self-recurring Zombies, casting from the graveyard and board-wide returns undo losses and turn the deck's own sweepers into one-sided resets. (Gravecrawler, Zombie Apocalypse, Gisa and Geralf) - Tribal anthems and cost reduction: Lords pump the Zombie horde for combat and make the creatures cheaper or free to deploy, and mana sources scale with Zombie count. (Undead Warchief, Death Baron, Rooftop Storm)
