Spellslinger
Taigam, Ojutai Master Commander Deck
Azorius spellslinger. Taigam attacks each turn, safely, thanks to boots, Reconnaissance, Pippin, ecc.. Every instant and sorcery cast from hand after that gains rebound, so each spell is cast twice and the deck's own spells can't be countered. A wide spread of cast-trigger creatures turns this doubled stream of cheap cantrips and big sorceries into flying tokens, cards and cost reduction, with a cost-reducer suite pushing out the free and cheap spells that feed it. How it wins: Rebounded spells make a flying army of Drakes, Birds, Monks, Merfolk and Sharks that closes the game in the air, backed by rebounded bombs like Time Stretch for four extra turns, Clone Legion, Bribery and overloaded Cyclonic Rift. Key roles: - Attack enablers: These let Taigam attack safely every turn to switch on rebound. They give him haste and protection, pull him out of combat untapped, and stop counterattacks with attack taxes. (Swiftfoot Boots, Reconnaissance, Ghostly Prison) - Cantrip doubling: One-mana draw and selection spells become two spells each with Taigam rebounding them. Each cast fuels the triggers and digs deeper, and See the Truth gives all three cards when cast from exile. (Brainstorm, Preordain, See the Truth) - Spell-cast token engines: Creatures that turn every instant, sorcery or noncreature spell into flying or prowess bodies. A rebounded spell triggers them on both casts, building the army that wins. (Talrand, Sky Summoner, Monastery Mentor, Shark Typhoon) - Cost reduction and value draw: Reducers make spells cheap or free so several can be cast in a turn. Draw engines and Vega, which rewards the rebound casts from exile, keep the hand full. (Baral, Chief of Compliance, Archmage Emeritus, Vega, the Watcher) - Rebounded bombs and tutors: Tutors and recursion find expensive sorceries that Taigam's rebound turns into repeat effects for free, such as double extra turns, repeated theft and repeated cloning. (Time Stretch, Mystical Tutor, Clone Legion) - Interaction and control: Cheap removal, counters and a sweeper keep the board in check. Rebound lets removal hit twice, and Taigam makes the deck's own key spells uncounterable. (Swords to Plowshares, Cyclonic Rift, Counterspell)
