Doctor Strange, Master of Magic
Doctor Strange, Master of Magic Commander Deck
Doctor Strange taps to draw once a noncreature spell has been cast that turn, and the deck is packed with cheap instants that untap a creature, so each one-mana spell enables, untaps and refuels him for another draw while his prowess grows. Casting many noncreature spells also triggers a suite of token makers, turning the stream of cantrips and untap effects into an army of fliers and prowess bodies. Heavy symmetrical and taxing card advantage, plus untap tricks on mana rocks, keeps the chain going. How it wins: It overwhelms opponents with a flood of noncreature spells that build a wide board of flying and prowess tokens, or a pumped, evasive Doctor Strange, then attacks through blockers with unblockable and pump effects. Key roles: - Untap spells: one-mana instants that untap Doctor Strange after he taps for a card, often adding hexproof, flying or a counter, so each spell both enables and resets his draw ability (Shore Up, Vault Skyward, Cerulean Wisps) - Spellslinger token makers: creatures that turn every noncreature or instant spell into a flying or prowess token, converting the cheap untap chain into a growing army (Monastery Mentor, Talrand, Sky Summoner, Hermes, Overseer of Elpis) - Card flow and taxes: symmetric draw, tax effects and draw-triggered payoffs keep the hand full, with draw counts turned into +1/+1 counters or Treasure, and no-hand-size effects to hold it all (Rhystic Study, Proft's Eidetic Memory, Gleaming Splendor) - Untap engine on permanents: mass and targeted untap effects reuse mana rocks, Doctor Strange and other tappers for extra mana and draws in a single turn (Dramatic Reversal, Vizier of Tumbling Sands, Sonic Screwdriver) - Cost reduction and spell mana: cheaper noncreature spells and spell-only mana let more spells, draws and triggers happen per turn (Geist of Saint Thalia, Chandra, Chill of Compliance, Archmage Emeritus) - Evasion, copies and control: unblockable, aura and copy effects push damage through or duplicate Doctor Strange, while cheap counters and bounce protect the engine (Steel of the Godhead, Helm of the Host, Teferi, Time Raveler)
