Sultai Arisen
Teval, the Balanced Scale Commander Deck
This is a Sultai self-mill and graveyard-recursion deck. You fill your graveyard with mill effects, then pull lands and creatures back out of it, and every card that leaves the graveyard feeds Teval's Zombie Druid tokens. Teval is the engine: each attack mills three, returns a land from the graveyard, and makes a 2/2 whenever cards leave. The rest of the list is there to stock the graveyard and then empty it in as many separate ways as possible. How it wins: You build a wide board of Zombie Druid tokens and reanimated threats and finish with Craterhoof Behemoth or Avenger of Zendikar, or by flying over with Teval and Colossal Grave-Reaver. Key roles: - Self-mill enablers: These put cards into the graveyard fast and often as a side effect of other plays. Skull Prophet, Stitcher's Supplier and Hedron Crab are examples, and Sidisi and Colossal Grave-Reaver turn the milled creatures into tokens or battlefield bodies. - Graveyard recursion and reanimation: These bring back creatures and lands, which keeps your board growing and sets up the payoff creatures. Meren, Victimize and Living Death do this, and Kotis and Gravecrawler let you cast creatures straight from the graveyard. - Land recursion and landfall: Returning lands from the graveyard lets you ramp and trigger landfall repeatedly. Icetill Explorer and Conduit of Worlds let you play lands from the graveyard, Life from the Loam and Will of the Sultai return them, and The Gitrog Monster draws cards when lands hit the graveyard. Landfall payoffs like Tatyova, Ob Nixilis and Avenger of Zendikar turn each land into cards, drain or growing threats. - Token and value triggers: These reward cards leaving the graveyard, so each recursion effect pays you back. Teval's Judgment gives a card, a Treasure or a Zombie, River Kelpie draws cards when permanents enter from graveyards, and Syr Konrad pings opponents as creatures die or leave your graveyard. - Delve and graveyard-as-resource payoffs: These spend the graveyard you built, either to cast big spells cheaply or to escape threats. Treasure Cruise, Tasigur and Afterlife from the Loam use delve, and Uro escapes from the graveyard. Timeless Witness and Cursecloth Wrappings reuse cards that were milled into it.
