Valgavoth, Harrower of Souls sits at the center of a relentless life-drain strategy, growing larger and drawing cards every time an opponent loses life on their own turn, which the deck ensures happens constantly through passive damage sources like upkeep life loss, creatures that punish drawing cards, landfall triggers, and entering creature penalties. The deck pressures opponents from multiple angles simultaneously — taxing spells, punishing activated abilities, dealing damage whenever creatures or permanents die or are sacrificed — so that opponents are losing life virtually every turn without any single source being easy to answer. Rakdos, Lord of Riots and Syr Konrad, the Grim amplify the strategy further, with the former discounting a flood of threats fueled by all that life loss and the latter turning every creature death and graveyard interaction into a wave of damage that chips all opponents toward zero.
