Chishiro's Gruul "modified creatures" deck makes its creatures modified with +1/+1 counters, Auras and Equipment, then cashes in on that status. Chishiro is the engine: each Aura or Equipment entering makes a 2/2 menace Spirit, and every end step it adds a counter to each modified creature, so a board of slightly-modified bodies snowballs. Counter spreaders, modified-matters payoffs and goad effects push opponents into each other while the growing army attacks. How it wins: It overwhelms the table with a large, ever-growing army of countered and equipped creatures, using extra combats, menace, evasion and direct-damage attack triggers, while goaded opponents weaken each other. Key roles: - Counter spreading: These give many creatures their first counter so Chishiro's end-step trigger grows the whole board every turn, and some double or snowball counters on their own (Grumgully, the Generous, Rishkar, Peema Renegade, Loyal Guardian). - Aura and Equipment token engine: Cheap Auras, Equipment and reconfigure creatures each make a menace Spirit through Chishiro on entry, and also turn their bearers into modified creatures with extra value attached (Smoke Spirits' Aid, Bonehoard, Komainu Battle Armor). - Modified-matters payoffs: These reward having modified creatures with extra combats, card advantage, cost reductions, haste and mana (Akki Battle Squad, Kami of Celebration, Invigorating Hot Spring). - Goad and political pressure: Auras, counters and combat damage force opponents' creatures to attack each other while the goading creatures grow themselves (Kaima, the Fractured Calm, Agitator Ant, Komainu Battle Armor). - Damage amplifiers and closers: Equipment and Auras turn a big, countered creature into a lethal threat through double strike, attack-trigger damage or card draw from combat damage (Mage Slayer, Fireshrieker, Kosei, Penitent Warlord). - Power-based refuel: Draw spells scale off the oversized creatures and the wide board, refilling the hand (Rishkar's Expertise, Shamanic Revelation, Soul's Majesty).
